South Africa’s Gary Player, who won two of the first four Senior Open Championships, has been forced to withdraw from the 26th staging of the event prior to Thursday’s first round due to a neck injury.
The nine-time Major Champion will be replaced in the field by first alternate, Canada’s Dave Wettlaufer.
Play got underway on Turnberry’s Ailsa Course at 7 o’clock on Thursday morning.
