Mark Mouland got off to a flying start in the first round of the Casa Serena Open as he marched into an early joint lead alongside Juan Quiros with three birdies in his opening three holes.

The Welshman has not yet managed a win in his Rookie year on the European Senior Tour and lies 31stin the Order of Merit on €46,176, helped by his third place finish at the ISPS Handa Senior Masters presented by The Stapleford Forum in Melton Mowbray.

But he shot up the leaderboard after a stunning start to his round, joining Quiros at three under after the Spaniard made birdies on the first, third and fifth holes in the opening round at the Czech Republic venue.

Marc Farry was one of the 12 players two shots back on one under as the early groups reached the turn as the Frenchman birdied the second hole and the sixth, with a bogey at the fourth wedged in between.

Bill Longmuir was another player on one under after the Scotsman landed a hole-in-one at the par three second hole, bogeying the third hole to leave him two shots back.

Sam Torrance has a steady start to his round after a fifth place finish at the Travis Perkins plc Senior Masters in Woburn as he made par in all of the opening six holes to stay level and three shots behind the early leaders.

Defending champion Gary Wolstenholme was due to tee off just before midday local time, alongside the in-form Barry Lane and Mike Harwood.
