Colin Montgomerie won his fourth title of the season with a magnificent nine-shot winning margin in the Volvo Scandinavian Masters at Barsback GC.
The Scot achieved a personal best of four victories in a year with a final round of 69 for a 20 under par total of 268 and is now on course to challenge the European Tour record of six victories in a season held by Seve Ballesteros and 1986 and Nick Faldo in 1992.
Montgomerie started the final round six shots clear of Paul Broadhurst and his lead was immediately increased when Broadhurst bogeyed the first. Three putts at the third cost Montgomerie a shot but his massive lead increased again with birdies on the fifth and ninth. Two more birdies on the 16th and 17th gave him the largest winning margin on Tour this year.
Defending champion and local favourite Jesper Parnevik shot a final round of 71 to finish second and earn 1,555 valuable Ryder Cup points.
It was the second Volvo-sponsored victory for Montgomerie following his success in the Volvo PGA Championship and extends his lead at the top of the Volvo Bonus Pool table. Victory also tightens his grip on the top of the Volvo Order of Merit as he chases a record seventh Harry Vardon Trophy.
