Two-time John Jacobs Trophy winner Colin Montgomerie secured his first title of the season as he overcame Scott McCarron in a three-hole play-off to win the Pacific Links Bear Mountain Championship.

Montgomerie, a former Ryder Cup Captain and eight-time European Tour Number One, carded a four under par 67 to match McCarron on 15 under par, forcing a play-off.

The pair made par on the first two extra holes, but Montgomerie birdied the third play-off hole to win his fourth PGA TOUR Champions title.

His previous victories on the over-50s circuit had all been on American soil, after winning back-to-back US Senior PGA Championships in 2014-15, and the 2014 US Senior Open.

Miguel Angel Jiménez carded a final round ten under par 61, the lowest round in the United States this season, as he finished tied third.

Bernhard Langer shot a final round 63 to move 19 places up the leaderboard, eventually finishing tied for seventh.
