Carnoustie Golf Links will host Europe’s only Senior Major Championship for the third time this year and Montgomerie, who was crowned European Number One a record eight times during a glittering career, will tee it up in Angus.

The 60-year-old won 31 times on the DP World Tour, as well as appearing eight times for Team Europe in the Ryder Cup, and has nine victories on the over-50s circuit, including three Senior Majors.
Montgomerie, who won the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship – played across Carnoustie, St Andrews and Kingsbarns – in 2005, is excited for a big summer of golf in his home country, with The Senior Open taking place after the DP World Tour’s Genesis Scottish Open, The Open at Royal Troon and preceding the Legends Tour’s flagship event, the Staysure PGA Seniors Championship.
“Scotland will be showcasing itself to the whole world this summer and I am incredibly excited and proud to be teeing it up at Carnoustie,” he said.
“Carnoustie has showed time and again its quality as a Major Championship venue and I know my fellow players are all looking forward to heading back there this year. It’s been eight years since The Senior Open has graced the Championship Course and that just makes the appetite even greater.
“The Senior Open is always one of the highlights of our schedule and getting the opportunity to play in front of Scottish crowds elevates it even further.”
Germany’s Alex Čejka defeated Pádraig Harrington in a play-off to win last year’s Senior Open Presented by Rolex as he landed his third Senior Major Championship on a dramatic final day at Royal Porthcawl.
The four-time DP World Tour winner got the job done at the second extra hole, making a two-putt birdie at the par-five 18th in punishing conditions, and the duo have both confirmed they will tee it up in this year’s contest, as well as two-time Masters Champion José María Olazábal.
This will be the third time the Championship has visited Carnoustie, with 12-time Senior Major winner Bernhard Langer winning in 2010, before Paul Broadhurst’s triumph in 2016.
Tickets start at £15 for adults, £7.50 for youths aged 16-24, while tickets for under 16s are completely free with any paid ticket.
