Montgomerie accepts charity cheque

Colin Montgomerie’s charitable work received a welcome boost at Castle Stuart Golf Links thanks to the generosity of Barclays and local reporter Anthony Joseph.

As part of the week in the Media Centre, Barclays ran a fun competition where the journalists were asked to estimate the closing figure of the Hang Seng Index in Hong Kong with the prize being a £500 donation to a charity of the winner’s choice.

The closing figure on Friday was 22,726 which was only six points away from the excellent guess of 22,720 made by reporter Anthony Joseph of the Aberdeen Evening Express.

Joseph then revealed he wished to make the £500 available to the Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centres who, together with the The Elizabeth Montgomerie Foundation – which Colin established in memory of his mother and which aims to raise money for cancer patients and their families – is working with Maggie's to create a centre close to the Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

During a break in play in the Barclays Scottish Open, Montgomerie was delighted to accept the cheque on behalf of Maggie’s Centres from Anthony and Simon Eaton, head of corporate communications from Barclays Capital.
