Money raised at British Masters to support junior golfers

The Golf Foundation benefited from more than £25,000 in its role as the Official Charity of the British Masters supported by Sky Sports at The Grove.

As Alex Noren wowed the British crowds with flawless golf to secure his third European Tour title of the season, tournament organisers were busy raising funds through donations and golf-related initiatives during the week.

Soomin Lee provided excitement on day two at the 13th green, recording the first hole-in-one at the British Masters since 2008. A six iron was all he needed from 175 yards to mark down the tournament's only ace of the week and secure a £10,000 donation for The Golf Foundation, courtesy of hole-in-one sponsors Hero Motocorp.

Frenchman Alexander Levy was the last man standing in the inaugural Hero Challenge under floodlights on Tuesday evening, winning the one-hole knockout contest and adding another £5,000 to the kitty for charity.

Other initiatives included the Mega Putt Challenge, where spectators paid £2 for three attempts at a 56-foot putt and raised £3,600, while the ISPS Handa Pressure Putt Showdown added an additional £3,000 and the Hit the Green competition pulled in £1,770.

Brendon Pyle, Chief Executive Officer at The Golf Foundation said: “The Golf Foundation is extremely grateful to the European Tour for being selected as the nominated charity at the British Masters supported by Sky Sports.”

“The funding raised will help Britain’s most recognised golf charity ensure that tens of thousands more youngsters will receive an introduction to golf in their schools and community groups via professionally-trained PGA Coaches and that they will also be given the opportunity to progress through the gates of a golf club to experience a warm welcome at our network of junior friendly facilities.

Golf is a tremendous sport for teaching young people valuable life skills such as honesty, respect and resilience.

"Thank you to the European Tour for its forward-thinking approach and its support of juniors."
