Edoardo Molinari has pledged to donate half of his prize money at this month’s Dunlop Phoenix Tournament to a charity supporting victims of the Japanese earthquake and tsunami.

The Italian, who was part of Europe’s victorious Ryder Cup Team last year, won the tournament in 2009 and has vowed to help the Green Tee Charity, a fundraising initiative set up by the Japan Golf Association to help those affected by the disaster, which struck in March this year.

Molinari said: “Having visited Japan on many occasions now and with such fond memories of the country and the people in Japan, I am pleased to make this donation to the Green Tee Charity.

“This earthquake and tsunami was such a shock to everyone around the world and I hope that the donation I can make following the tournament will help with the support being given to those families affected.”

The Dunlop Phoenix Tournament is being played at the Phoenix Country Club, Japan, from November 17 – 20.

Molinari is not the first player to offer financial help to the victims of the disaster. Japan’s 20 year old star Ryo Ishikawa said in March he would donate his entire season’s prize money, plus 100,000 Japanese Yen for every birdie he made, to the relief efforts.
