Miguel Ángel Jiménez has achieved another career milestone by teeing up in the 707th European Tour event of his career at the Hero Open.
The 56-year-old Spaniard is no stranger to setting records and this week he will set another by overtaking Sam Torrance’s long-standing all-time European Tour appearance record.
Here, we take a look at his European Tour career in numbers.
707 – Appearances on the European Tour
Jiménez has overtaken Sam Torrance’s all-time appearance record on the European Tour by making his 707th start at the Hero Open. He tied the Scotsman’s previous record of 706 during the Betfred British Masters at Close House last week.
4 – Wins at the Hong Kong Open
Claiming the title in 2004, 2007, 2012 and 2013, he has won the Hong Kong Open more than any other tournament in his career.
10 – His record for the number of holes in one on the European Tour.
An extraordinary feat which occurred with two aces in successive weeks. Jiménez first equalled Colin Montgomerie’s record of nine during his home open at Real Club de Golf El Prat in 2015, and then added a hole in one at the par three second at Wentworth Club during the BMW PGA Championship the following week.

A staggering number of wins, he is part of a small group of players who hold victories across three different decades. He claimed his first European Tour title at the Piaget Belgian Open in 1992 and earned his most recent title in his homeland at the 2014 Open de España.
37 – Years since he made his first start on the European Tour
The first time we encountered Jiménez was during the 1983 Benson & Hedges Open, and it took him just a few years longer to earn his Tour card at Qualifying School in 1988.1
62 – Top 10s
During his 706 previous starts on Tour, he has amassed an impressive 162 top 10s throughout his career. Nine of those have been in Major Championships, with his best result a runner-up finish at the 2000 U.S. Open. His most recent top tencame at the 2020 Austrian Open, where he ended the week tied eighth.
558 - European Tour events in the money
Setting another record on the European Tour, Jiménez has finished inside the money in 558 of his 707 events – the most of any other player.
50 years, 113 days - The oldest winner on Tour
The now 56-year-old holds the record for the oldest winner on the European Tour, which he has achieved on three occasions.
He won the Hong Kong Open in 2012 at the age of 48 years, 307 days, successfully defended his title the following year at 49 years, 337 days, and then broke the record for a third time at the 2014 Open de España, where he claimed his 21st European Tour title at 50 years, 133 days.
2004 – His most successful year on the European Tour
Jiménez began 2004 with a two shot victory during the Johnnie Walker Classic in February, and added wins at the Open de Portugal, BMW Asian Open and BMW International Open to close out his most successful season with four wins. He added a further win that December at the Hong Kong Open.
4 – Ryder Cup appearances
The charismatic Spaniard first experienced The Ryder Cup as a Vice Captain to countryman Seve Ballesteros in 1997, and later played his way on the 1999 European side at Brookline. He was part of Team Europe on three more occasions (2004 at Oakland Hills, 2008 at Valhalla, 2010 Celtic Manor), and was Vice Captain during Europe’s victories at Medinah in 2012 and Gleneagles in 2014.
