It has been a whirlwind since then and a specially commissioned half hour documentary – produced by European Tour Productions – will be shown on Sky Sports on Wednesday and Thursday of this week, capturing the excitement and activity crammed into his first three months in the role. The documentary will also be made available to international broadcasters in due course.

‘Paul McGinley – Ireland’s Captain’ follows the 46-year-old from that momentous evening in Abu Dhabi when his selection was confirmed, through trips to Gleneagles – the venue of The 2014 Ryder Cup – and to his native Dublin – to appear on The Late Late Show – as well as on a number of official engagements including meeting up with Scotland’s First Minister Alex Salmond.

It also gets inside the mind of the four time European Tour champion on how he truly feels about the honour bestowed on him by his fellow professionals and how much he is looking forward to going head to head against Tom Watson’s American team next September in Scotland.
