Richard McEvoy is hoping to make it third time lucky at the ISPS Handa World Super 6 Perth after firing an opening 67 at Lake Karrinyup Country Club.

The Englishman is making his fifth appearance in Western Australia, with two top 40 finishes in 2013 and 2016 when the Perth International was a 72-hole stroke play event.

He has yet to finish in the top 24 and make it into the six hole match play knockout since the format was changed in 2017 but was in a tie for third after day one on a layout he loves.

The Porsche European Open champion is also a big fan of match play and is determined to challenge on Sunday for European Tour title number two.

"I'm very pleased," he said. "I played some solid golf.

"I've been here quite a few times, now. It really suits my eye, I love the golf course which is why I come back year after year.

"It's a drawer's course really, which suits my game, there's not many holes out there that don't suit my eyesight. I'm very comfortable here.

"I haven't actually got through to match play yet. I've had some decent results here in the past when it was just stroke play but I haven't actually got through to match play. I'm looking forward to trying to get myself into that position.

"I played the Belgium Knockout last year, which was match play. I really enjoyed that. I got to the quarter-final of that. Match play is something that we play all the time in the UK at home in amateur days in particular.

"It's nice playing match play, I really enjoy it, and six holes is a proper shootout, it will be good fun."
