England’s Richard McEvoy and South African Hennie Otto boosted their chances of securing their European Tour cards for next season as they grabbed a share of the clubhouse lead during the second round of the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.
McEvoy, 171st on The Race to Dubai with just three weeks remaining to climb into the top 110 who retain playing privileges, followed his opening 64 at St Andrews with a 67 at Carnoustie in the three-course pro-am event.
Otto, a two-time European Tour winner but currently 112th in the standings despite a top-ten finish in Italy last week, made a brilliant blemish-free 63 at the Home of Golf having taken 68 at Kingsbarns yesterday.
At 13 under they shared the lead with Wales’ Jamie Donaldson and former Ryder Cup star Oliver Wilson.
Donaldson, who will line up for Great Britain & Ireland in the Seve Trophy by Golf+ next week, was six under for the day with four holes left at Kingsbarns.
Wilson has predominantly plied his trade on the Challenge Tour this season, but the nine-time European Tour runner-up was maintaining his quest to return to The European Tour this week with five birdies in his first 12 holes at St Andrews.
The leading quartet were one ahead of Dutchman Joost Luiten, Dane Søren Kjeldsen and English trio Mark Foster, Tommy Fleetwood and Tom Lewis on a crowded leaderboard.
