McDowell out to improve Wentworth record

Graeme McDowell would love to have a problem on Saturday evening - how to get from Wentworth Club to Wembley in a hurry.

Manchester United fan McDowell has tickets for the Champions League final against Barcelona for himself, his father, brother and "a few friends", but he also hopes to be leading the BMW PGA Championship.

The third round is scheduled to finish at about 6pm and the match kicks off at 7.45pm, but post-round interviews could make it a real dash.

"It'll be a nice problem to have, but I'm hoping I'll make it," said the US Open Champion.

To be left with a rush across London McDowell will need to improve significantly on his Wentworth record - in eight attempts at the title his best performance came two years ago when he finished 13th.

"Not a golf course I've performed as well as I'd like to in the past, but the changes certainly fit my eye," he added.

"Obviously the slight tweaks since last year, he's flattened the eighth green, which needed to happen, the 18th is a slightly more inviting target. I think a lot more guys will go for it this year. It's a bigger target, flatter, obviously lowered it a little bit.

"The good thing about this golf course is it remains playable in a strong wind because it is among the trees and you get a little bit of shelter out there. So it's not unplayable in a breeze, but obviously some strong winds forecast tomorrow. It will be quite the test. But you know, the golf course is in great shape as always and got a great field here and should be an exciting weekend.

"This is our Flagship Event, and we've got a great field together here. Everyone is excited."
