Graeme McDowell's amazing US Open victory - the first by a European in the event since Tony Jacklin in 1970 - takes him to a career-high 13th in the world.
Only two months ago the 30 year old Northern Irishman was not even in the top 50 and was in danger of having to qualify for not only Pebble Beach, but also next month's Open at St Andrews.
Now, however, he has won on his last two starts – The Celtic Manor Wales Open victory came two weeks ago - and with his climb today from 37th that makes it eight Europeans in the top 15 of the rankings.
The top five remain unchanged with Lee Westwood third behind Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson. Ernie Els, joint third at Pebble Beach moves up to sixth by overtaking Luke Donald. Paul Casey also moves up a place to eighth after changing places with Ian Poulter while Rory mcIlroy maintains his position in the world’s top ten.
Martin Kaymer received a welcome boost ahead of the BMW International Open in his home country after moving up a place to 11th with his top ten in the US Open. McDowell now lies 13th while Padraig Harrington occupies 15th place.
