DID YOU KNOW – MAYBANK MALAYSIAN OPEN
• The Maybank Malaysian Open became part of The European Tour International Schedule in 1999 and was the first co-sanctioned event between The European and Asian Tours. It was played at the Saujana Golf and Country Club and won by American Gerry Norquist. The 2011 edition will be the 67nd tournament jointly held between the two Tours.
• The championship is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. The tournament was first played in 1962 and is the second most played national open in Asia, behind the UBS Hong Kong Open, which has been played on 52 occasions.
• Noh Seung-yul became the tournament’s youngest winner in 2010, aged 18 years and 282 days and third youngest in European Tour history.
• Since 1999, seven of the 12 winners have been won by players claiming their maiden European Tour International Schedule victory. They are: Gerry Norquist (1999), Yeh Wei-tze (2000), Alastair Forsyth (2002), Thongchai Jaidee (2004), Charlie Wi (2006), Anthony Kang (2009) and Noh Seung-yul (2010).
• Martin Kaymer will be making his second appearance in the Maybank Malaysian Open, having made his debut in 2007.This marks the first time the world’s leading player has played in the championship.
• To highlight the strength of the 2011 field, three of the current four Major Champions are in the field: They are: Charl Schwartzel (Masters Tournament), Louis Oosthuizen (Open Championship) and Martin Kaymer (US PGA Championship).
