Mauritius to host new Senior Tour finale

The Mauritius resort of Constance Belle Mare Plage will be the new host destination for the European Senior Tour’s season finale, the MCB Tour Championship, following a new four year agreement with title sponsor Mauritius Commercial Bank.

MCB Tour Championship announcement

Starting with this year’s tournament from December 9-11, the MCB Tour Championship will conclude the Senior Tour campaign until at least 2014, with a minimum prize fund each year of €400,000.

Constance Belle Mare Plage has hosted the Mauritius Commercial Bank Open on the Senior Tour for the past two seasons, with Englishman Kevin Spurgeon and then South African David Frost capturing the title.

The new agreement sees the tournament renamed as the MCB Tour Championship and means from 2012 the Senior Tour campaign will be played across a calendar year, finishing in December.

Raoul Gufflet, Head – International at Mauritius Commercial Bank, said: “The MCB is delighted to welcome the John Jacobs trophy to Mauritius. Hosting the last event of the European Senior Tour season with such a strong field will guarantee spectacular golf.

“We are delighted that the MCB Tour Championship is set to become one of the top events on the European Senior Tour calendar. With this enhanced partnership, what was already the most prestigious golf competition in the Indian Ocean will be even better and will promote Mauritius as a true golf destination."

The 54 hole event will continue to be played over Constance Belle Mare Plage’s Legend Course, which lies along 2km of white sandy beach on the eastern coast of Mauritius.

Patrice Binet-Decamps, Managing Director of Constance Hotels Experience, said: “Constance Hotels Experience has been present on the world golf map since 1992 with our three championship golf courses in Mauritius and the Seychelles and we are happy to reinforce our association with the European Senior Tour. Following the success of the MCB Open, Constance Belle Mare Plage is delighted to host the European Senior Tour players for the MCB Tour Championship in December 2011.”

Andy Stubbs, Managing Director of the European Senior Tour, said: “Over the last two years we have forged a strong partnership with Mauritius Commercial Bank and Constance Belle Mare Plage and we are delighted to announce this new agreement that will see the MCB Tour Championship conclude the next four European Senior Tour seasons.

“Constance Belle Mare Plage is a magnificent venue for the John Jacobs Trophy to be presented to the leading Senior Tour player and we look forward to playing our part in promoting Mauritius as a leading international golfing destination for a number of years to come.”
