Mauritius set for second Tour finale

The resort of Constance Belle Mare Plage will this year host the European Senior Tour’s season finale for a second time, as the MCB Tour Championship returns to the picturesque Indian Ocean island of Mauritius from December 7-9.

Former Open Champion Tom Lehman sealed a wire-to-wire victory in the in the inaugural edition in 2011 after surviving a captivating final round battle with David Frost.

The 2006 United States Ryder Cup Captain carded a final round 71 for a 12 under par total of 204 to hold off South African Frost by a single stroke, on a day when Australian Peter Fowler sealed the 2011 Senior Tour Order of Merit.

A top-class field is again expected to vie for the €400,000 first prize, including double Senior Major Champion Roger Chapman, who currently heads the Senior Order of Merit by just over €100,000 from compatriot Barry Lane.

The 54 hole event will again be contested over Constance Belle Mare Plage’s Legend Course, which lies along 2km of white sandy beach on the eastern coast of Mauritius.

Before the MCB Tour Championship came into being in 2011, Constance Belle Mare Plage previously hosted the Mauritius Commercial Bank Open on the Senior Tour in 2009 and 2010, as Englishman Kevin Spurgeon and then the aforementioned Frost captured the title.
