Matt Wallace: I'm better than I was four years ago

Matt Wallace returns to Made in HimmerLand this week confident that he is a better player than when he lifted the trophy in Denmark four years ago.

The Englishman prevailed in a play-off against three of his compatriots to win his third title of a 2018 season that saw him finish in the top ten of the DP World Tour Rankings in Partnership with Rolex.

Since then he has finished third at a Major Championship and become a truly international player as he splits his time between the PGA and DP World Tours.

And while he may not have added to his win tally yet, the 32-year-old is certain he is a better player for his experiences.

"I feel like I'm a more rounded player, more mature," he said. "Back then I was just gung-ho.

"I think I missed five cuts before I won in Denmark in the build-up so my game was up and down and my emotions were more up and down - people would know me as a more fiery player back then.

"I've still got that passion but I can control it a bit better now but in my game I feel like I'm a better golfer, more rounded.

"Playing on the PGA TOUR you have to ball strike your way around there quite often, I didn't quite have that when I was on the DP World Tour to start.

"I hit the ball from tee to green a bit better and hopefully that can put me in good stead this week when the wind picks up.

"I feel like I want to hit the golf ball better anyway. I've always had the short game, I've always had the putting, I've always had the desire to win tournaments but I don't think my game was at a level where I can compete as highly as I wanted to on the PGA TOUR and win Majors and tournaments."

Wallace arrives at Himmerland full of confidence having just missed out in a play-off to Thriston Lawrence last week in Switzerland.

He also had a top ten in Farsø the year before he lifted the trophy in Aarhus and is eager to challenge again after his near miss in the mountains.

"It's a play-off, it can go either one way or the other, especially when there's the just the two of us," he said. "Thriston played great, I played with him Saturday and Sunday.

"I've won my past two play-offs, this is my first loss in a play-off and it stings. I love Crans, I'll be heading back there to try and win that trophy and that jacket but that's the closest I've been up there.

"It's great to have my team around me and we go again this week. I'm feeling good, feeling comfortable, feeling confident. The game is in good shape and we can just keep going."
