It has been confirmed that Made in Denmark will be part of the European Tour's International Schedule until at least 2019.
Next year the tournament will be played at the home course of the European Ryder Cup Captain Thomas Bjørn - Silkeborg Ry Golfklub - for the first time. Fittingly the tournament will be the last counting event on the European Tour for The 2018 Ryder Cup.
Having been played at Himmerland Golf and Spa Resort since the tournament’s inception in 2014, this will mark the first time the tournament has changed venue.
The tournament will see the municipalities in Silkeborg, Aarhus and Skanderborg working together alongside the primary sponsor Jyske Bank, and is sure to be another huge success.
Bjørn grew up playing at Silkeborg before going on to become Denmark’s most successful golfer, winning 15 European Tour titles and playing in three victorious Ryder Cup teams – acting as Vice Captain in four others before being appointed Captain for the next edition in Paris.
Bjørn said: “I don’t know how many rounds of golf I’ve played at Silkeborg Ry Golfklub – a lot - but to finally play a European Tour event on the course where I grew up will be an extraordinary experience, one that I’m really looking forward to.”
Flemming Astrup, Promotor of Made in Denmark, said: “We’re looking forward to coming to Silkeborg Ry Golfklub in 2018.
“The course in Silkeborg has always been recognized as one of the best in Denmark, and has a lot of experience hosting both national and international events, so I’m sure we will have yet another great golf event in 2018.”
Steen Vindum, Mayor of Silkeborg, said: “I’m pleased that we succeeded in getting Made in Denmark to Silkeborg.
“We expect up to 100,000 guest during the week, and the event will make Silkeborg known around the world. We call ourselves Denmark’s outdoor capital, and hosting Made in Denmark fits perfectly in our vision.”
Keith Pelley, Chief Executive of the European Tour, said: “Made in Denmark has proven to be a fantastic event on the European Tour, with the passion of Danish golf fans creating an incredible atmosphere for our players.
“We are delighted that the tournament will be a part of the European Tour International Schedule for a further two years, and we look forward to next year's event at Silkeborg Ry Golfklub, home of European Ryder Cup Captain, Thomas Bjørn.”
