2011 Became the third Englishman to be crowned World Number One, following
Sir Nick Faldo and Lee Westwood. Took over at the top after beating
Westwood to win the BMW PGA Championship. By the end of 2011
he will have occupied the top spot for 30 consecutive weeks.

• 1999– Played in his first European Tour event at The Open Championship as an amateur.
• 2001– Turned professional
• 2002– Made his European Tour debut as a professional at the US Open Championship, tying for 18th place.
• 2003– Joined The European Tour as an Affiliate Member and finished 115th in The Order of Merit to become a Full Member for 2004, winning €165,079.
• 2004– Claimed his first European Tour title at the Scandinavian Masters, in his 12th European Tour event. Won his second four tournaments later at the Omega European Masters. Finished the season in 20th place. Won €1,037,279 from his 11 appearances.
• 2005– Recorded nine top ten finishes to take 12th place in the Order of Merit, with €1,397,385.
• 2006– Broke into the top ten of the Order of Merit for the first time, taking seventh, earning €1,658,060.From his 13th starts was second twice and produced six other top ten finishes.
• 2007– Finished 38th in the Order of Merit.
• 2008– Only played seven events in 2008 due to injury.
• 2009– Saw him finish 55th in The Race to Dubai.
• 2010– Won his third European Tour title and the first for six years at the Madrid Masters. Amassed €1,678,072 in The Race to Dubai, his highest figure in terms of earnings, taking 15th spot.
• 2011– In his 104th European Tour start and aged 34 years and four days became European Tour Number One. Was helped by victories in the WGC – Accenture Match Play Championship, BMW PGA Championship and Barclays Scottish Open. Was runner-up twice, at the Volvo World Match Play Championship and WGC – Bridgestone Invitational. From his 13 appearances was only out of the top ten on three occasions. Won a record €5,323,400. By the end of 2011 will have spent 30 consecutive weeks as Number One in the Official World Golf Ranking.
