Luiten leaves Augusta on a high note

Joost Luiten finished his maiden Masters Tournament with a flourish as a closing round of 67 left him on course to register a top 30 finish.

Luiten’s approach play was immaculate throughout, as he notched six birdies – including three in his final four holes – to end the week on four over par.

The Dutchman, who will now take three weeks off, was understandably delighted with his debut appearance at Augusta National.

He said: “It feels really great to shoot 67 on Sunday at the Masters. It’s always good to shoot 67, but to do it here at the Masters, on the final day, feels really special. Yesterday was a little bit of an off day, and you need four good days to compete here. But if I look back at my tournament overall, I’m obviously very happy.

“It’s been great. You learn so much playing in these events, playing tough courses like this, putting yourself in the positions that you need to be in. If you take that experience to the next tournament that you play in, they will feel easy compared to this.

“I’ve done well in the past in Majors. I’ve played The Open twice, made the cut there, and the US PGA a couple years back. It’s good for my experience and development as a player, and I think that’s more important than anything else at the moment.”
