What’s in the bag of rising star Ludvig Aberg at this week’s Omega European Masters? Have a look at what caught our eye…
Ahead of making a flying start at Crans-sur-Sierre Golf Club with a bogey-free 64 in the first round, the Swede caught up with reporter Josh Antmann to discuss his equipment and some of the stories behind them.
After finishing in a tie for fourth at last week’s D+D REAL Czech Masters, Aberg is looking to improve his case for inclusion in Team Europe at the Ryder Cup with Luke Donald announcing the Captain’s Picks on Monday.
This week marks his sixth start on the DP World Tour and he has brought out a putter cover – with the blue and yellow colours synonymous with Sweden – he got while playing at the Scandinavian Mixed in Gothenberg in 2021.
Having only found it again recently while clearing out his cupboard drawers after graduating from Texas Tech University earlier this year, the 23-year-old was keen to have it back in his bag.
“I think it is pretty cool,” he said. “It reminds me a little bit of home and I like that.”
The venue this week is one of the most scenic on the DP World Tour and sits at an altitude of about 1,500 meters.
As such club selection is pivotal, meaning Aberg had a big task in selecting exactly which clubs would form the maximum of 14 that are permitted in his bag from the 19 he brought with him.
“I have got a few different lob wedges that I usually travel with depending on the grass. If it is soft you want a little bit more bounce, if it is firm you want a little bit less.
“Normally I don’t switch the sand wedge and the gap wedge but the 60 and the lob wedge I change a bit.
“Depending on tee boxes, and how far you want to it on par fives, I have a driver, 3 wood and 2 iron or hybrid.”
