The Merseyside red and blue rivalry will be rekindled when Liverpool and Everton footballers take to Hillside Golf Club for the Celebrity Pro-Am on the eve of the Betfred British Masters.
The Premier League clubs, who are separated by one mile across Stanley Park, have produced many memorable battles in English football and the latest will take place on the fairways when former players and several current stars tee it up at the Betfred British Masters Celebrity Pro-Am on Wednesday May 8.
Everton fan Tommy Fleetwood, the 2017 Race to Dubai Champion and one of the stars of last year’s Ryder Cup, will host this year’sBetfred British Masters at Hillside Golf Club (May 9-12), in Southport, the coastal town where he grew up.
Fleetwood will see his beloved Blues represented by former players Leon Osman and Alan Stubbs, and former Everton Ladies goalkeeper Rachel Brown-Finnis. Also teeing it up at Hillside will be former Everton manager David Moyes, who led the club to their highest Premier League finish to date when they clinched fourth place in the 2004-2005 campaign during his 11 years at the helm.
Brown-Finnis has a close affiliation to Fleetwood as she is married to his caddie and long-time friend Ian Finnis. She began her career in the North West of England and joined Everton in 2003, having previously played for Liverpool Ladies and in America. She debuted for England as a 16-year-old in 1997 before going on to make 82 appearances for the national team alongside winning the 2010 FA Women’s Cup before she retired in 2015.
Merseyside rivals Liverpool will be represented by several icons from the club; Sir Kenny Dalglish, Robbie Fowler, Alan Hansen and Jason McAteer, who share more than 1,500 Liverpool appearances between them, as well as 14 English league titles, nine European titles and four FA Cups.
Dalglish, who managed the Reds between 1985-1991 and 2011-2012, adds a further three English titles, two FA Cups, plus the 2012 League Cup as boss of the club.
Another footballing legend teeing it up in the Celebrity Pro-Am is Newcastle United hero Alan Shearer – the Premier League’s all time top scorer with 260 goals - who also captained England on 34 occasions.
Stars from other sporting arenas are also set to take to the Southport links, including England cricket’s record wicket taker James Anderson, and his former teammates Stuart Broad and Matt Prior.
Television presenters Clare Balding, Jeremy Kyle, Spencer Matthews, Naga Munchetty and Dan Walker will also tee it up, joined by reality television stars Gary Beadle, from Geordie Shore and Chris Hughes, from Love Island.
