Brandon Stone won his first Challenge Tour title as he overcame three of his countrymen in a play-off at the Limpopo Championship. Here is what you might have missed from the opening event of the season.
Graduation first, win second
The sight of Brandon Stone at a Challenge Tour event is a rarity these days, and that is because he graduated in 2015. The South African finished second twice en route to earning his European Tour card six years ago, but teed it up this week as a Sunshine Tour member. Stone has been one of the most successful graduates of recent years and it is fitting that he finally has that Challenge Tour victory to his name.
Shot of the Year candidate?
We know it’s early to be talking about the Shot of the Year, but Brandon Stone’s approach to the par five ninth hole on Sunday has to be in with a shout. Blocked by the trees, Stone hit a stinger under the branches to around seven feet before rolling in the eagle putt. Judge how good it was for yourself but clicking below…

Season goals
Prior to the action getting under way last week, we sat down with five Challenge Tour players to discuss their goals for the year…
The importance of the South African Swing
The Limpopo Championship was the first of three events co-sanctioned by the Challenge Tour and the Sunshine Tour, which not only gives Challenge Tour players the opportunity to compete on a different continent, but gives Sunshine Tour members the chance to further their careers. Click below to hear why Oliver Bekker thinks these events hold such high importance.
