The Foshan Open will bring the 'Chinese Swing' to a close and the last chance for players to make the Challenge Tour Grand Final.
Taking place from October 24-27, the Foshan Open is the final leg of the two-week Chinese double-header following the Hainan Open, and is also the final opportunity for players to enter the top 45 places to qualify for the season-ending Challenge Tour Grand Final.
The event presents players with the final chance to rise up the season-long rankings to keep their hopes of European Tour graduation alive.
The Challenge Tour players will make the short trip from the island of Hainan to Foshan City following the completion of the Hainan Open, as the big-money Foshan Open will be contested for the seventh time.
Last year, there were two players who clearly benefitted from the penultimate event of the season, winner Victor Perez and runner-up Robert MacIntyre.
The Frenchman emphatically sealed his European Tour playing privileges for 2019 after rising from 16th to second on the Rankings with a play-off win over the young Scot.
Perez leapt from 16th to second on the Order of Merit with his win in Foshan, while MacIntyre also broke into the top 15, taking 13th place, moving up from 34th at the beginning of the week.
It is more than at the top of the leaderboard where players can make moves in China, however. The ‘Chinese Swing’ is the final chance to secure a place in the limited field Challenge Tour Grand Final, and Dutchman Darius van Driel took full advantage of that opportunity as a fifth-place finish saw him move from 51st to 32nd in the Rankings, securing his place at the season finale.
