Levy's desert delight continues

Alexander Levy is aiming for another strong finish at the NBO Oman Open as he looks to play his way into the WGC - Mexico Championship.

The Frenchman has enjoyed the 2018 Desert Swing so far, with finishes of seventh in Abu Dhabi and fourth in Dubai helping him to 11th in the Race to Dubai Rankings presented by Rolex.

If he can break his way into the top ten in those Rankings on Sunday he will secure his place at the first of the season's World Golf Championships and he sat just three shots off the lead after round three.

Rounds of 71-69-67 moved him to nine under at Al Mouj Golf and if he can maintain that downward trend in scoring, he could be looking at a fifth European Tour title as well as a flight to Chapultepec Golf Club.

"I've played well since the start of the season and I'm just trying to follow that," he said.

"I played really well the first two days and today I played really good golf. I just followed what I did the first two days and holed some good putts and I'm happy with the way i'm working, the way I'm swinging and the way I'm playing. It's a good time for me.

"I think it's the best I've been swinging in my career so i just enjoyed it and tried to hit the best shots I can.

"It's a good position. Tomorrow I'll just play my own game and try my best and enjoy it. We practise to be in this position so I'll try my best tomorrow."

Chris Wood was two shots ahead of Levy after making his first cut of the season but he would have been top of the leaderboard had it not been for a bogey-bogey finish.

That late slump left him one off the lead held by Julien Guerrier, Joost Luiten and Matthew Southgate but the Englishman felt he was in a good position to strike on Sunday.

"I would have been very happy to have finished four-four but there were tricky pins out there so I felt like I was ahead of the game as I was going along," he said. "To get in on 13 under leading would have been great but it's fine, I'm one behind.

"In a way the pressure's on the leaders overnight. I'm one behind, right in the mix - that's nothing over 18 holes so I'm pretty happy with where I am."

Adrian Otaegui's 66 matched the lowest rounds of the day and the Spaniard was happy to be heading into Sunday just two off the lead.

"I was hitting fairways and greens and made a few putts so I'm very happy with a six under," he said.

"I felt very well on the course all day which is the most important thing. I gave myself many birdie opportunities which I think is what all golfers want during their round. Some putts didn't drop. I made six pars to finish the round and some of them could have been birdies but I'm happy with it.

"When I finished yesterday I was also very happy with my round, I just didn't manage to make many birdies, but I was happy with how I felt on the course.

"You always want to keep getting better all the time and that's my goal, to keep improving my game and keep improving on the Rankings."
