Levy keeps his eyes on the prize in Germany

Alexander Levy put on a superb performance alongside Ryder Cup Captain Thomas Bjørn on days one and two of the Porsche European Open but insisted he was focused on the task at hand at Green Eagle Golf Courses.

The biennial spectacular takes place at Le Golf National on the outskirts of Paris later in the year and Levy is currently the highest-ranked Frenchman on both the European and World Points Lists.

He claimed a fifth European Tour win at the Trophée Hassan II in April and opening rounds of 69-68 put him in a good position to challenge for number six over the weekend in Hamburg.

Playing partner Bjørn had the best seat in the house to observe the 27 year old but Levy is adamant he is focused on this week and this week only.

“It would be really nice to be part of this team but I'll just focus on my game, that's the only thing I can do,” he said. “After, you never know what can happen.”

The 2016 champion had started with a bogey on the tenth on Friday but birdied the 14th and another gain on the sixth kicked off a wonderful run of scoring.

A big drive allowed him to set up a tap-in birdie on the seventh, he was inches from making a hole-in-one on the par three eighth, and a ten-footer on the ninth had him at seven under.

“I played good golf, I stayed patient,” he said.

“I didn't have a putt on the first nine holes - I holed two good putts for par on the first and third and from there I made some putts for birdie.

“I'm really pleased with what I did today and it's nice to he in this position for the weekend.

“I just feel comfortable and enjoy playing. I would love it to be like that every week. The golf course suits my game and I'm really happy with my game this week.

“It's a good golf course in good condition, the greens are good so it's perfect to make some birdies.

A lot of positives in the game and I can have a go at the weekend - Bradley Dredge

“It was not easy, the wind was blowing early this morning so I feel I played good golf and made some nice putts at the end.”

Bradley Dredge was also seven under after a second round of 69.

The Welshman birdied the fifth and despite giving the shot back on the eighth, a gain on the ninth and a ten-footer on the 11th had him in a share of the lead.

A double-bogey after finding water on the 13th sent him tumbling back but the two-time European Tour winner hit back in style, birdieing the next, holing a long putt from the fringe on the 16th and closing with another gain.

“It was good,” he said. “It was a bit of a contrast over two rounds. I kept the ball in play well yesterday and my putting has been good for both rounds. But today I was struggling off the tee and it cost me a few shots here and there but, at the end of the day, 69 was still a good score.

“I feel as though, even in Scotland, I was starting to play really well even though I missed the cut by a shot. But I was starting to play some really good stuff. My iron play has been really good, I’ve really sorted the putting out so a lot of positives in the game and I can have a go at the weekend.”
