Leishman closes in on Smith

Marc Leishman cut Cameron Smith's lead to one shot as the final round of the Australian PGA Championship got under way at RACV Royal Pines Resort.

The defending champion started Sunday with a three-shot advantage but dropped a shot in his first three holes to slip to 13 under.

Playing partner Leishman was one under for his round to pile the pressure right on Smith, with a charging Ross McGowan then at ten under.

Both Smith and Leishman went a long way left off the first tee, with the leader having to take a drop from an unplayable lie in a bush. Leishman did well to find the green and save his par but Smith dropped a shot and the lead was down to two.

The man making a huge charge through the field to catch that lead was McGowan, who birdied the third, fourth, fifth and eighth to turn in 32.

He then made four birdies in a row from the tenth to get into double-figures and the course record was under threat.

Leishman hit a beautiful third into the par-five third to get to 12 under and while Smith made an excellent save to make a par, the lead was down to one.

Matthew Millar had a single birdie in his first four holes to sit at eight under, a shot ahead of Jaewoong Eom, Nick Taylor and Harold Varner III.

Jason Scrivener made seven birdies and two bogeys in a 67 to set the clubhouse target at six under.
