Lehman seals Charles Schwab Cup

Tom Lehman, who defends his title in the MCB Tour Championship next month, was victorious in the US Champions Tour season-ending Charles Schwab Cup Championship as the former World Number One became the first back-to-back winner of the season-long points race.

Lehman carded a final round 65 on the par-70 Desert Mountain Cochise Course to finish on 22 under 258 – a Champions Tour aggregate – to finish six shots clear of Jay Haas.

The victory meant he overtook Germany’s Bernhard Langer to win the Charles Schwab Cup after Langer had started the tournament with a 211 lead in the Schwab Cup standings but had to finish for second place with Fred Couples third and US Senior PGA and US Senior Open Champion Roger Chapman in fourth.

Langer did have the consolation of finishing the season top of the Champions Tour Money List, ahead of Lehman, while Chapman will collect the John Jacobs Trophy for winning the European Senior Tour Order of Merit when he joins Lehman in the MCB Tour Championship in Mauritius from December 7-9.

Meanwhile Barry Lane finished 10th in the Fuji Film Senior Championship in Japan, with Peter Fowler 15th and defending champion David J Russell in 20th.
