Over 130 schoolchildren from Ayrshire and Arran were entertained to an hour-long masterclass conducted by Tom Lehman and Bobby Clampett on the practice range at Turnberry yesterday ahead of the Senior Open Championship Presented by Rolex.
The youngsters were part of the ClubGolf initiative, which was born from Ryder Cup Europe’s decision to award The 2014 Ryder Cup to Gleneagles, and has been supported by the Scottish Government to help ensure a lasting legacy of the match being staged in Scotland.
Former Open Champion Lehman and Clampett, who led the 1989 Open at the halfway stage not far up the Ayrshire coast at Royal Troon, kept the kids mesmerised with their skills and trick shots while providing some useful advice on golfing etiquette.
