Tiger Woods and Graeme McDowell got off to flying starts in the third round of the WGC - Cadillac Championship at Trump Doral.
The final pairing had seen the pressure cranked up as Fredrik Jacobson, who began four shots adrift of the lead, moved level with McDowell on 11 under via an eagle on the first.
Yet his outstanding approach on that hole, a stupendous three iron to eight feet, was matched by Woods and McDowell when they got under way.
The former had to settle for birdie as his putt came up just short, but 2010 US Open Championship winner McDowell found the centre of the cup to cut his partner’s lead.
Fourteen time Major Champion Woods delivered the perfect response on the next, however, as his wedge shot stopped inches shy of the hole to set up a birdie; McDowell could only manage par.
Their tee-shots on the third - both in the middle of the fairway - suggested another day of impressive scoring was in the offing despite the additional wind on the Blue Monster course.
That looked even likelier as they played identical approaches, both sinking putts from eight feet to be three under for the day.
Steve Stricker was also enjoying conditions and picked up shots on the second and third to reach 12 under, three shots ahead of Jacobson - whose promising start was dented by successive bogeys.
Further down the leaderboard, Sergio Garcia was eight under, having picked up two birdies in his opening six holes, alongside Charl Schwartzel - whose 65 yesterday was matched only by Woods.
