Justin Rose confirmed his place in the field for next year’s Masters Tournament with a final round back-nine blitz.
The Englishman took just 31 shots after the turn, carding three birdies and an eagle at the 15th for a 68.
That took Rose into a share of ninth, with the top 14 automatically receiving invites to return to Augusta National.
“I said to Charles Howell on the tenth tee: ‘Come on Charles, let's see if we can get something going on the back nine, at the very least, let's get into the top 14 to get our invite back next year’,” said Rose. “And that proved to be the inspiration I needed.
“It was really fun to make some birdies and obviously make an eagle on 15, which is always nice to get a little bit of crystal for the week, and especially nice to get some redemption, really, from the bad finish yesterday, finishing the last four, three under today.”
The Ryder Cup star believes he need to improve his work on the notoriously fast Augusta greens in order to challenge in the future.
“When I look back at this week I realize how many shots I left out there,” he said.
“It's been a poor putting week. I felt like mentally I made so many mental errors out there this week.
“So to be within touch of the lead and to be within the top ten, it just shows my game is close, and if I can just iron out a few of the other areas, I'll give myself lots of chances in the future.”
