The Farmfoods European Legends Links Championship made its debut on the Staysure Tour at Trevose Golf & Country Club in 2019. Here’s what happened last time out on the Cornish links.
Maiden event
Players teed it up at the Farmfoods European Legends Links Championship for the inaugural staging of the event last June; the first of two events promoted by Champions UK. The tournament was the first of five to take place on English soil, and Jean-François Remésy was the player to claim the bragging rights, after rounds of 68-71-67 saw him win the title ahead of Barry Lane by a single stroke.
Stunning setting
Trevose Golf & Country Club was the location for the event as the picturesque course in Padstow hosted a European Tour-sanctioned event for the first time. Surrounded by several beaches and with the backdrop of the Atlantic Ocean, Trevose was an idyllic location to host the stars of the Staysure Tour on the Cornish coast.
Woosie drains one
Ian Woosnam, the 1991 Masters Tournament Champion, rolled in one of the contenders for 2019 Staysure Tour Shot of the Year, when he sank an eagle putt from off the green at the par four sixth hole during round one.
Brier’s final round
With all eyes on Remésy at the top of the leaderboard on the final day, there was man charging through the pack and into the top ten with one of the rounds of the year. Austria’s Markus Brier began the final round on three over par in a share of 24th place.
However, Brier, who joined the over 50s circuit in July 2018, charged up the leaderboard with an eight under par round of 64. The Austrian birdied four of his opening five holes and was seven under after ten holes following a hole-in-one at the par three eighth. The two-time European Tour winner shot into tied sixth place to claim his second of six top ten finishes in 2019.
