Larrazábal leads from charging Wood

Pablo Larrazábal maintained his three-shot lead but Chris Wood was making a surge through the field on day three of the Volvo China Open.

The Spaniard has been in sensational form so far this week, making just a single bogey, and he picked up a shot in his first three holes on Saturday to move to 15 under.

Englishman Wood began the day ten shots behind the leader but in the calm early conditions he made eight birdies in 16 holes to sit at 12 under.

Frenchman Alexander Levy and South African Dylan Frittelli were then both at 11 under after starting with three pars, with South Korea's Soomin Lee a further shot back having also completed three holes.

Ross Fisher was then the clubhouse leader at nine under after posting a 64 including a hole-in-one on the sixth, with increased winds making scoring more difficult for the later starters at Topwin Golf and Country Club.

Wood hit the birdie trail early, making gains on the first and fourth and then rattling off four in a row from the sixth to turn in 30. Another gain on the 11th then left him in the group in second place.

Lee also moved into that group after an excellent approach to the first, while Larrazábal had to make a smart par after finding sand off the tee.

The leader then hit a beautiful tee-shot into the par three second and after holing a short but slippery one down the hill, the lead was up to four shots.

Lee found sand off the tee on the third to drop back to ten under but Wood took advantage of the driveable par four 15th to move three shots off the lead.

After Levy broke the course record with a 63 on Thursday and Frittelli matched it on Friday, Fisher showed there was still a low score out there with his 64, helped by the 15th ace of the season.

After a birdie-birdie start, the Englishman bogeyed the fifth but then holed his tee-shot on the 128 yard sixth with a pitching wedge and made another birdie on the eighth.

An eagle on the 15th was then sandwiched by birdies on the 12th and last.

Home favourites Li Haotong and Yi Cao were also nine under with two to play, alongside Dane Thorbjørn Olesen who had played ten holes.
