Lara looking to enjoy first Wentworth weekend

José Manuel Lara made the cut for the first time at Wentworth Club - but there could be even better to come for the Spaniard over the weekend.

The two-time European Tour winner has never featured over the last two rounds of the BMW PGA Championship in six previous appearances.

However, after opening with a 67 and then fighting back from four bogeys on the back nine with a pair of closing birdies, the 34 year old put himself right in the frame at four under par.

"On the last three, four holes I was a little bit nervous," he said. "I never made the cut in this tournament, and it's a huge tournament - it's the biggest we play every year. I can't describe it how I feel now, I'm in the weekend in a good position and enjoying myself on this course.

"The last two holes on this course, you are waiting for them, because you have been working all day very hard and then you have two par fives to finish. But one of those par fives where you can make birdie, or you can make whatever - seven or six - if you miss the driver."

Lara's clubhouse lead looked all the more impressive as the second day wore on - with Luke Donald dropping to five under he was only two behind new leader Matteo Manassero midway through the afternoon.

"The course is longer today," he added. "They put the tees back again, so it's playing a little bit longer, and it was cold in the morning. Now it's a little bit better but it was cold. This course was always tough. It doesn't matter if the sun is shining or raining but it's a very good course.

"It's one of those courses you try to see the top of the trees at some times are going one way and the other ones are going the other way, and it confuses you.

"I'm really happy to be in on the weekend and in position. I'm going to try to enjoy, play my golf and see what happens."
