Langer targeting Montgomerie after Champions Tour win

Bernhard Langer claimed his 25thChampions Tour title at the San Antonio Championship, winning by three strokes to narrow the gap on the Charles Schwab Cup leader Colin Montgomerie.

The German birdied three of his last four holes at TPC San Antonio to shoot a seven under par final round of 65 and force American Scott Dunlap into second place.

This was the 58 year old’s second Champions Tour win of the season following his triumph at the Constellation SENIOR PLAYERS and makes 2015 the fourth consecutive year, and seventh year overall, that he has claimed multiple victories on the Champions Tour.

It also marked something of a breakthrough for Langer at the San Antonio Championship, where he has twice lost out in a play-off, to David Frost in 2012 and Kenny Perry in 2013.

Only two players – Hale Irwin and Lee Trevino – have won more times on the Champions Tour than Langer, who moved level with Gil Morgan in third place on the all-time list.

Langer is now only 66 points behind Montgomerie with just two events remaining this season, with Jeff Maggert separating the two former European Ryder Cup captains.

Montgomerie also holds an unassailable lead in the European Senior Tour Order of Merit after his victories in the US Senior PGA Championship presented by KitchenAid and the Travis Perkins Masters.
