Langer searching for home win at WINSTONgolf

German Bernhard Langer will go in search of a victory on home soil for the first time in 15 years after confirming his appearance at this year’s WINSTONgolf Senior Open.

The three-time Senior Major Champion will return to Vorbeck, in his native Germany, for the fifth edition of the tournament from July 8-10, which has been held at WINSTONgolf since 2012.

Langer has taken part in the tournament on two occasions, but has yet to win a senior title in his homeland. The two-time Masters winner came closest in 2014, when he was pipped by Englishman Paul Wesselingh who won a three-way play-off against his compatriot Phil Golding and the home favourite.

His last home victory came at the Linde German Masters on the European Tour in 2001, when he beat Freddie Jacobson and fellow Senior Tour member John Daly by one shot at Golf Club Gut Lärchenhof.

Langer has been in exceptional form in 2016, recording his 101st international tournament victory at the Constellation Senior Players Championship – an event which he has won three years in a row.

“So far, this season has been very good for me,” Langer said. “I will do everything I can to win the WINSTONgolf title this year – a victory in Germany is always very special.”

Tournament director Ronny Woisin added: “We are very excited that Bernhard Langer has committed to playing this year.”

Although being held at the same venue in 2016, the tournament is moving from the WINSTONopen course to the spectacular WINSTONlinks course, which was voted Germany’s best course by Golf Magazin in 2015.

Defending champion Pedro Linhart is set to face stiff competition in Vorbeck, with former Ryder Cup Captain Ian Woosnam, and players Paul Broadhurst, David Gilford and Costantino Rocca, also in the field.
