Bernhard Langer is targeting a return to winning ways in this week’s US Senior PGA Championship presented by KitchenAid after missing last year’s championship due to injury.
The German, who won both The Senior Open Championship and US Senior Open Championship in 2010, is returning to his best form after recovering from the thumb injury that blighted his 2011 campaign.
He has five top ten finishes so far this season on the US Champions Tour and the 1985 and 1993 Master Champion is keen to add another Major Championship to his CV at Harbor Shores this week.
“The game's been pretty steady this year, back to where I used to be,” said the 2004 European Ryder Cup Captain. “The surgery last year knocked me back for several months and I had a lot of pain there for about six to eight months. But now I'm pretty much pain free and can practice and play as much as I want. The results have been pretty good, just the W has been missing. But it will come. I’ll keep knocking on the door and it will happen.
“I think it's a phenomenal golf course from tee to green. One of the world's best, I would say, but it could be the most severe or worst green complexes I've ever seen in my life.”
Langer, who was runner up to Jay Haas in 2008, is part of a record 31 European Senior Tour members teeing it up in the season’s first Senior Major Championship.
He will play his first two rounds alongside American’s Fred Funk and Michael Allen. Debutant Philip Walton is in the group after, alongside Joey Sindelar and reigning Senior Open Champion Russ Cochran.
Gary Wolstenholme, who won the season opening Mallorca Open Senior, joins former Open and Masters Champion Sandy Lyle among the early starters.
