Germany’s Bernhard Langer, one of three former European Ryder Cup Captains in the field, is hoping his fine run of recent form continues as he bids to capture his maiden Senior Major at the US Senior PGA Championship.
Langer, who has one European Senior Tour title to his name and has won back-to-back Money Lists on the other side of the Atlantic, recently claimed his tenth US Champions Tour title at the Outback Steakhouse Pro-Am.
Despite his success, Langer is yet to taste victory in a Senior Major, with a runner-up finish behind Jay Haas on his US Senior PGA Championship debut his best effort to date.
Langer, who also finished tied fourth at last year’s Senior Open Championship presented by MasterCard, will now attempt to go one better at the US$2million event.
He said: “I had a pretty decent start to the season and I’m fairly happy with my game, so I’m looking forward to the week – it’s always fun playing at a Major. Everybody’s here, all the great players, so it should be a great competition.”
For the first time the event will be played at Colorado Golf Club in Denver, America, a course Langer feels will provide a stern test.
He said: “The general design is beautiful – I love the layout. But I think some holes are a bit severe, and particularly some of the greens. So it’ll be a tough test – but an interesting one.”
Langer will be joined in the field by Scotland’s Sam Torrance and Welshman Ian Woosnam, as well as a further 23 European Senior Tour Members.
