Langer leads Berenberg Bank Masters field

Bernhard Langer will lead an impressive field in the Berenberg Bank Masters, which takes place from June 17-19, at the Cologne Golf und Land Club.

Bernhard Langer

Langer, the reigning Senior Open and US Senior Open Champion, is the tournament ambassador for the second edition of the tournament, which has a prize fund of €400,000.

He will be joined by fellow former Ryder Cup Captains Mark James, Sam Torrance and Ian Woosnam, as well as Sandy Lyle, the two-time Major Champion and current European Senior Tour Order of Merit leader.

Also in the field is defending champion Boonchu Ruangkit, winner of the 2010 Senior Tour Order of Merit, who captured the inaugural Berenberg Bank Masters title in South Africa last year.

Torsten Giedeon,  who won the World Cup for Germany playing alongside Langer in 1990, will hope to use home advantage as Head Coach at the Cologne Golf und Land Club.

Other leading names in the field are Italian Costantino Rocca, Swede Anders Forsbrand, Des Smyth of Ireland  and English trio Carl Mason, Barry Lane and Peter Mitchell. Last week Mason won a record breaking 24th Senior Tour title and will be looking for further success.

Dr. Hans-Walter Peters, of Berenberg Bank, said: “We’ve had a great response from the players for this first European Senior Tour tournament in Germany for ten years. We are pleased they have all supported our efforts to further promote the role of golf in Germany.”
