Lagergren keen to complete the job

Joakim Lagergren hopes to convert some decent form into a big finish in the final round of the 70° Open d’Italia Lindt after putting himself in a strong position.

The Qualifying School graduate has made a respectable 11 cuts in 18 appearances this year, but the lack of a top-ten finish has left him 146thon The Race to Dubai and needing a big finish to the season to avoid a third straight trip to PGA Catalunya Resort.

Lagergren's third round 67 was one of the lowest of the day, and left him alongside Ryder Cup stars Nicolas Colsaerts and Francesco Molinari in a share of second – one behind leader Marcus Fraser.

“I am very happy with that because this is not an easy golf course and I managed to make eight birdies today,” said the Swede.

“I am creating a lot of chances and managing to take a few which is great because I have made the last six cuts in a row but haven’t really managed to get any good results which can be very frustrating.

“I can’t put the finger on what has changed but it is getting better and more consistent. It is coming but the scores haven’t been there.

“I’m really excited. If I can put in a good score tomorrow then we will see what happens. I have been in this position a couple of times now and hopefully I can handle it as well as I did last year.”
