Favourite – Adrian Meronk
Just a few weeks on from his Masters Tournament debut, Meronk arrives in Korea as the top-ranked player in the field. The Pole is already a winner on the DP World Tour so far this season, cruising to a five-shot win at the ISPS HANDA Australian Open in December. That came just five months after his breakthrough triumph at the Horizon Irish Open when he made history as the first player from his country to win a Tour event. With top tens in Abu Dhabi and Ras Al Khaimah during the Middle East Swing at the start of the year, the 29-year-old will be looking to climb from 12th on the Race to Dubai Rankings in Partnership with Rolex. Either side of his appearances in Ras Al Khaimah and at Augusta National Golf Club, there have also been top 20s on his visits Stateside at the Honda Classic and WGC – Dell Technologies Match Play. He is currently in just under 55% of Fantasy teams this week – making him the most popular pick.
Form horse – Grant Forrest
We could have highlighted Yannik Paul for the second week running after he continued his excellent recent record with a tie for sixth in Japan, but the German is not the only player running high on confidence. Forrest threatened to win his second DP World Tour title last week before settling for a share of fourth. In his last four starts on Tour, he has finished no worse than 11th and has climbed to 21st on the Race to Dubai Rankings. Last week alone, he jumped from seventh to second on the 2023 Fantasy player rankings for points accumulated, with only Niklas Nørgaard ahead of him. As a result, it comes as no surprise to see that just under 34% of Fantasy users have latched on to his run of good performances and selected him.
Wild card – Richie Ramsay
Many of this week’s field will be competing in South Korea for the first time, but one player with competitive experience and a record of performing strongly in the country is Ramsay. The Scot finished runner-up at the 2012 Ballantine’s Championship, a year after a top 15 finish in the same event. Already a winner on the DP World Tour back then, he has since added three further victories, most recently ending a seven-year wait for a fourth Tour title at the Cazoo Classic last summer. Now in his 15th consecutive season on the DP World Tour, the 39-year-old arrives in Korea after a missed cut last time out in Japan and aiming to return to the consistent form that saw him qualify for the DP World Tour Championship for the first time since 2017 last season. He is currently in just under 4% of teams for this week and could prove a popular selection as players look to boost their points haul.
Looking back – ISPS HANDA – CHAMPIONSHIP
Lucas Herbert lived up to his billing as the highest-ranked player in the field at the ISPS HANDA – CHAMPIONSHIP, clinching his third DP World Tour title in the first play-off of the 2023 season. The Australian will have proven a popular winner among Fantasy users as the second most picked player, with him featuring in 33.87% of teams and captaining 15.39%. Our Favourite - and clearly that of many others – Rasmus Højgaard finished in a tie for 16th on his return to action after a near three-month competitive break. Readers of this column will also have been well served if they opted for our Form Horse as Yannik Paul – featuring in 21.55% of squads – registered a third consecutive top ten by firing a Sunday 65, while our Wild Card Ryo Hisatsune missed the cut on home soil.
