Carin Koch has been named as the 2015 European Solheim Cup Team Captain for the matches to be played from September 18-20 of next year at European Tour Destination Golf Club St Leon-Rot.

It is the first time the contest will be played on German soil and there is sure to be plenty of attention on the impressive venue, situated outside the picturesque town of Heidelburg, in the build-up to one of the biggest events in the women’s game.

After two consecutive successes for the European Team, Koch is unsurprisingly excited as the countdown gathers pace towards the 2015 edition at Golf Club St Leon-Rot.

“I am extremely delighted and honoured to captain the 2015 Solheim Cup team,” said Koch. “Being vice-captain to Lotta (Neumann) in 2013, I once again experienced the thrill of The Solheim Cup matches which are unlike any other tournament in professional golf.

“I cannot wait to stand with the team on the first tee next September to start our quest for the hat-trick of wins against the US team.  I look forward to working with the German team at Golf Club St Leon-Rot for the next year and a half to put on the best Solheim Cup ever!”

This marks the latest in a long line of top professional golf events to be played at the venue, which has previously played host to The European Tour’s Deutsche Bank SAP Open, won on three occasions by Tiger Woods in 1999, 2001 and 2002.

Both courses – the St Leon and the Rot – have received numerous accolades from the golfing press, with the former having won the much sought-after Golf Journal Travel Award nine times in a row until 2010, and the latter taking over in the following two years.

As well as two Championship courses, the Destination, founded in 1996, also boasts a nine hole academy course and Allianz Indoor Short Game Centre of Excellence, confirming its focus on the development of junior golf within Germany.

With one of the premier events in women’s golf now set to grace the complex, Golf Club St Leon-Rot is sure to garner plenty of attention in the build-up to the matches over the coming 18 months.
