Kim and Baldwin make early headway

A total of 81 players teed off this morning in the US Open Championship Qualifier at Walton Heath Golf Club, where there will be 11 places available for the second Major of the 2012 season.

Colin Montgomerie and José María Olazábal, Europe’s former and current Ryder Cup Captains, were amongst the players hoping to secure berths at the Olympic Club in San Francisco, America, from June 14-17.

Korea’s Sihwan Kim and England’s Matthew Baldwin, playing in the first group out, made the early running, shooting respective rounds of 66 and 67 over the New Course.

The field will play 36 holes, over the Old and New Courses, to determine the 11 qualifiers, with a play-off held to decide the final places if necessary.
