Keenan Davidse taking strength from his family on home soil

Keenan Davidse felt "blessed" to be playing for his family as he continued to overcome a tough time off the course at the Jonsson Workwear Open.

The home favourite suffered personal tragedy last month as his coach and his aunty both sadly passed away during the week of the NMB Championship on the European Challenge Tour.

He did them proud as he finished in the top ten at Humewood Golf Club and he followed that with a top 20 finish on the DP World Tour at the SDC Championship.

Davidse has also been candid about his wife's mental health struggles but with life now good at home, he was using his family as motivation for an opening 64 at Glendower Golf Club.

"It wasn't hard, I'm on a good foot again back home," he said.

"We all know my Mrs has been struggling with anxiety and depression. It's been tough on the whole family.

"She's made it a point in her life where she's made a turnover and I feel like we're a family again. That's my motivation: my wife and my kids.

"I'm just blessed to be here today."

I'm just in the space where besides the golf, with my family and everything, I'm in a good space

Davidse's two previous DP World Tour top tens have come on home soil at the 2017 Joburg Open and last season's SDC Championship.

The first of those results came in the week his son was born and Davidse - who also held the lead after the first round of the 2018 Joburg Open - revealed he is doing it all for his children.

"That was the week my son was born, my eldest Elijah," he said. "And that was my motivation. He turned seven a few weeks ago and my second born is turning two in a week so I'm just doing it for my kids.

"It's a tough life out here and we all know golf can bring you down. I'm just in the space where besides the golf, with my family and everything, I'm in a good space. That's what is motivating me as well."
