Martin Kaymer made early progress on day three of the Alstom Open de France, with the leaders yet to begin their penultimate rounds.
Kaymer, who can reclaim the World Number Three ranking from US Open Champion Rory McIlroy with a top eight finish this week, built on his second-round 69 by picking up shots on the third and fourth holes today.
That lifted the German - who won this event in 2009 - into a tie for seventh on four under par, although he remained six adrift of James Morrison, who fired a second consecutive 66 yesterday to open up a one-shot lead over Australia’s Richard Green.
England’s Chris Wood was another to fare well this morning, moving to three under par for his round and the tournament.
Wood, who finished in a tie for second at this year’s Iberdrola Open in Mallorca, turned in 33 courtesy of birdies at the first, third and fifth holes.
Graeme Storm and Thomas Levet also made up ground to join Wood on three under, while American Brendan Steele was a further shot back, with his round of 67 representing the best of the early starters at Le Golf National.
