Martin Kaymer hopes his excellent recent form can lead to a title challenge at this week’s BMW PGA Championship.
A recent winner at The Players Championship, the German has made six cuts in seven appearances at Wentworth Club but has yet to register a top-ten finish.
However, the former World Number One’s recent Sawgrass success has inspired Kaymer to believe he can be in contention come Sunday evening.
“I think I've done well the last few weeks,” said the 2010 US PGA Champion. “Not only The Players Championship - a nice bonus to win that one - but coming into that week, I think I played fairly well at the Masters and then Hilton Head.
“It's really nice now to be here, to be home in your open, even though it's not Germany but at least we are close, because I've been in America for the last seven, eight weeks and you do start missing home a little bit.
“I think I've done okay in the past. I never gave myself a chance to really win that tournament, and really that's the goal every week we play is to have a chance on Sunday afternoon.
“That is the main thing; you can't win it on Thursday but you can put yourself in a position to do well.”
Kaymer’s first Major Championship victory and rise to the top of the Official World Golf Ranking were followed by a difficult couple of years on the course, with holing Europe’s putt that retained The Ryder Cup at Medinah the obvious exception.
But the 29 year old feels his all-around game is better now than it was three years ago, when he became World Number One.
“Now I would say I'm a more complete player,” he added. “But it's very important that we don't put it in the wrong perspective now that I should play well every week.
“Obviously golf is a very difficult sport and a very important word is the expectations that a lot of people have, and me as a player, I know where I can rank my expectations.
“It's just important that others don't always think that we have to deliver every single week - you can only get disappointed otherwise.”
Another player to have travelled over from the States in good form is Swede Jonas Blixt, who finished tied for second at the Masters Tournament.
And Blixt is aware that a good performance this week could catch the eye of Ryder Cup Captain Paul McGinley.
“I think everybody that's here expects themselves to be in contention come Sunday,” said Blixt. “That's where I want to be.
“As a European growing up in Europe, you always want to play the greatest events, and this is definitely, outside Majors, the biggest one.
“Obviously this is going to be a great week. I've been looking forward to coming back to Europe for a while, and it's just great when the summer comes here and the weather is great and the temperature is awesome. It's always fun to come back to Europe.
“Hopefully I get to meet him [Paul McGinley] this week. When I've spoken to him, he seems like a great captain and a great guy - I would love to play for him.”
