Kapur inspired by presence of cricket legend Tendulkar

Tendulkar’s arrival was greeted by a maelstrom of media, fans and even star-struck professional golfers as the sporting legend was given a tour of the resort before taking on a putting challenge alongside Challenge Tour player Rhys Davies, India’s only Challenge Tour winner Gaganjeet Bhullar, European Tour regular Shiv Kapur, former US PGA Championship winner Rich Beem and last year’s Gujarat Kensville Challenge runner-up Rahil Gangjee.

The 39 year old, who is widely regarded as the greatest living batsman, also greeted fans and signed autographs for the hundreds of fans that turned up to see one of India’s most famous sons.

The players were amongst those, with former Wales underage cricket international Rhys Davies visibly excited at meeting Tendulkar while Kapur summed up his celebrity status in India.

He said: “Think of Michael Jordan, Babe Ruth and David Beckham and put them all together and that is how big he is in India. He is an absolute legend.

“He has been my idol growing up, he is always one guy I have looked up to him so it’s great to meet him.”
