Anthony Kang maintained the sparkling form that brought him success last week in Malaysia to take the early lead on the second day of the Johnnie Walker Classic.
Fresh from his first victory in eight years at the Maybank Malaysian Open, the 36-year-old began with a five-under-par 67 at The Vines Resort and Country Club on Thursday.
And he continued to shine this morning in Perth, making five birdies in his first eight holes to move to ten under, two shots ahead of overnight leader Robert-Jan Derksen, who fired a 64 in his opening round.
The Korean-American improved to 11 under with another birdie on the 12th and open up a two-shot gap over Australian Tony Carolan, who birdied his final two holes on Thursday to post a 65 and picked up shots on two of his first five holes this morning to improve to nine under.
World number 11 Anthony Kim of the United States moved into contention on seven under after following his opening round of 68 with three birdies on the front nine. He was tied for fourth with Ian Poulter, who had five birdies and two bogeys through 12 holes after also shooting 68 on Thursday, and Terry Pilkidaris, who followed his opening 70 with five birdies in his opening ten holes.
Eight-time European Tour Order of Merit winner Colin Montgomerie carded a 67 on Thursday but had a roller-coaster start to his day, picking up four birdies and three bogeys through his first 13 holes to lie at six under.
