The American reached 16 under for the week with seven holes to play to hold a slender advantage over China’s Liang Wen-chong, who was 15 under through ten holes.

Gareth Maybin and Miles Tunnicliff are still very much in the hunt at 14 under, while Louis Oosthuizen, Johan Edfors, Prayad Marksaeng, Jyoti Randhawa and overnight leader Adam Blyth all had work to do from 13 under with holes fast running out.

Kang was four under for the day through 11 holes and was yet to drop a shot in his final round.

Liang was two under for his round, but it was Maybin - who lost in a play-off to Richard Sterne at the South African Open Championship- that was making the biggest charge, gaining five shots in his round with six holes remaining.
